Though my father’s clinic at Forbesganj(estd.1945) was named the Mithila Ayurveda Bhavan (my grandfather was also the assistant manager of the Mithila Printing Works (estd.1905) at Madhubani, the first press printing Maithili in the early years of the 20th century), it never evoked in me any overt interest in Mithila or Maithili during my school-days which had no Maithili teaching facilities (though being in Mithila). So, I had to read Hindi as my mother tongue in the language paper. Maithili is an independent language having its own script and grammar with rich literary traditions and is as different from Hindi as is Tamil from Telugu. However, my mother tongue Maithili, used at home and in correspondence, on getting the first opportunity became my language paper at the Ranchi College in the PUC and in my I.Sc (1970-72) courses, wherein the Ranchi College Magazine of 1973 my article, Vishnu: Vish va Nav Jivanak Nirman on viruses is probably the first scientific article in Maithili. I started writing my diary in Maithili in my college days knowing Gandhi used to write his diary in Gujarati.
In 1973, I was not only expelled* from the Maithil mess of the Darbhanga Medical College but my security money was also forfeited on my utterance that the mess should include medicos of all castes, inhabiting Mithila who are innate Maithils and not only Brahmins as such. Though I am a Maithil Brahmin, thereafter I remained reluctant to when Maithili movement considering it a caste-oriented, secessionist movement till in 1991 inspired by Kamal Narayan Jha, Librarian, the RDCIS, SAIL, Ranchi I started writing in Maithili again.
(**Similarly on 15.12.2003,maithilsabha@yahoo.com removed my membership when I tried to gather some Maithils without any caste bias at the India Gate, N.Delhi on 9.12.2003 for the Antarrashtriya Maithili Parishad(AMP), the coordinator, Maithilsabha, R.N. Mishra, had accepted to be the president of the Delhi unit on 7.10.2003}; even my statement on passing the Bill by the Loksabha for the inclusion of Maithili in the VIII Schedule of the Indian Constitution by the 100th Amendment on 22.12.2003 was not circulated. It resulted in the launching AMPs website http.//www.geocities.com/ maithili_parishad by Padmanabh MISHRA, IIT, Kharagpur on 21.3.2004. However, R.N.Mishra appreciated me at the YOM (AMP) convention on 14.1.2007 at N. Delhi (focussed on flood control, infrastructure development, and centres of excellence in Mithila, attended by S C Jha, Advisor to PM, BP Sigh, ex-director, WB, Chaturanan Mishra, ex-minister, GOI, A N Jha, ex-Election Commissioner, Mahabal Mishra, MLA, Delhi, Ganesh Gunjan, etc.
In fact, when K.N. Jha, asked me to write an article in Maithili I recalled, (having listened from someone), that Lohia once stepped into a newspaper office saying that he wanted to write something as he had nothing in his pocket, and the editor had agreed and to his great surprise, Lohia had asked for a few pages and wrote then and there an article for getting immediate remuneration.
Though I was not money-pressed when I was asked to write by K. N. Jha, recalling Lohia’s that episode I wrote immediately asking for a few pages from him, and then I was gradually initiated into the Maithili movement. I wrote three articles (the first described a house named ‘Mithila’ at Madikeri in the Coorg area of Karnataka state and two later on the History of Mithila), which were published in a local Maithili magazine, the Bharati.
On the removal of the Maithili subject from the BPSC Examination on 29.2.1992, I had written a letter in the Ranchi Express in April 1992, protesting against it and demanding Maithili’s recognition as the second official language of Bihar(including Jharkhand) in place of Urdu. It prompted Ram Ekbal Singh ‘Vineet’, sub-editor to come in person with two other workers Pitambar Chaudhary and Lakshman Jha requested me to join the Maithili movement run by the newly founded, ‘Maithili Vikas Parishad’. Accepting their request, I went through available materials from 1905 and found the remedial corrective.
I rediscovered celebrating Janaki Navami (Baishakh Shukla 9) as Maithili Divas which was in practice during the 1930s as
our Jatiya Parva i.e. Rashtriya Parva for Mithila. A small beginning at Ranchi had now established Mother Janaki(Fig.—) as the source of inspiration for Maithils of all nomenclatures in and outside the Mithila region, including the USA and Canada. Janaki Navami should replace International Women’s Day i.e. 8th March (or at least as the Rashtriya Mahila Divas i.e. National Women’s Day) is my firm view.
The encysted file of the Mithila statehood since 1956, I could reopen solely in 1992 when nobody was on the surface and everyone criticized me. My uncle Madhukar Thakur explained to me any day during 9-12 May 1992 when I had gone to my village Samaul in the summer that he had been in jail in Asansol with 64 other Maithils going to Kalyani Congress in 1954 demanding Mithila state. I wrote an article on that “Vikask Lel Chhot Rajyak Gathan Vanchhaniy” which was published by the Ranchi Express on 20.9.1992 (Fig. ) and from that time I am continuously working for Mithila statehood gone in 1774 by the British which needs restoration also for the national security apart from the economic development of the region which is in a dilapidated condition due to perennial floods
Seeing the world meets of other languages, through the MECON Ltd.-SAIL’s Maithils’ Organisation, the Bharati, I convened the First International Maithili Conference at Ranchi on June 19-20,1993,(Fig.65) where the Maithili movement got the important dimensions of the socio-economic development of Mithila.
Inaugurated by Dr. Jaykant Mishra and BabuSahenb Choudhary there were Amresh N. Jha, Kathmandu, N K Gami, Ranchi/Darbhanga, Dr Suresh Jha ;’Ajit apart from me Dr.Dhanakar Thakur ,convenor.
Feeling that the movement should reach the grass-roots in the very interiors of Mithila. I, with the blessings of the successor of Vinoba (who had also appreciated my medico-social work), Bailvijay (who had been my patient too), undertook a Padyatra of 138 km during October 16-26, 1993, which was followed by cycle-march during May 22-29, 1994 and October 14-22, 1994 of 226 and 181 km respectively.
Meeting thousands of people from hundreds of villages, I concluded that for the development of this poorest part of the world (per capita income less than Rs. 1000 per annum then now in 2025 also the lowest in the country),
Mithila state is a must within the framework of the Indian Constitution to identify its agrarian problems compounded with perennial floods and/or drought, with the least developed infrastructure although having God-gifted, one of the most fertile soil and brains in the world.
Proposed Mithila state in India with 30 districts (24 of Bihar and six of Jharkhand)
Parts in Bihar- 54232 KM2
65,393,105
Parts in Jharkhand-13619
6963802
MITHILA-67851 KM2
72,356,907
Mithila with 67851 KM2 and 72356907 population of 2001 (Data Source -Govt of Bihar and Jharkhand sites and Malayalam Manorama Yearbook, 2006.)will be area-wise 12th and population-wise 7th state of India(though of part of Mithila gone to West Bengal in 1956 also we demand to return).
Mithila will have 28 MPs. which too will be seventh according to number.
Antararshtriya Maithili Parishad and its affiliate Mithila Rajya Sangharsh Samiti(MRSS) is staging continuous dharna and submitting a memorandum to the President, Prime Minister, and Home Minister of India at Delhi in 2008, 2009, 2010,2011(MRSS), 23.11.2015. My senior friend K N Govindacharya,ex-General Secretary of the BJP came to dharna to support the Mithila statehood.
. For the statehood of Mithila,, I was able to convince Dr. Jaikant Mishra on 20.11.1994 at Allahabad for Mithila statehood that he said publicly in the meeting ‘what I could not understand in 50 years, Dr. Dhanakar Thakur could understand just with the entry in the fray,” and afterwards he worked tirelessly till his death that I eponym him ‘the Field Marshal of the Mithila movement’.
I thought, planned, printed papers and receipts of the Mithila Rajya Sangharsh Samiti and asked Dr. Jaykant Mishra to join me on my tour for it in Mithila which he joined at Supaul and we toured Forbeshganj, Jogbani, Purnea, and Bhagalpur and asked Dr. Mishra to camp at Patna where on 8.1.1995, I was about to declare him as the President that some Vivekanand of Chetna Samiti interrupted and I could not then but after a year at the II International Maithili Conference on my ancestral land at Madhubani I declared his name as the president of MRSS, first declaring myself as the president of the AMP which till then was to run by a board of 7 Maithil organizations which never meet. Afterwards, Dr. Mishra tirelessly moved across the Mithila at the fag end of his life with an implanted pacemaker to arouse the Maithils.
In 1992., I was able to open a closed file of the Mithila state movement since 1956 when the movement became entirely linguistic for inclusion in the Sahitya Akademi, protest when Urdu became the second language of Bihar leaving Maithili, and for the continued struggle for inclusion in the VIII Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
My stand had been MITHILA Rajya if not attained Maithili will also languish and hence I continued my awakening programs despite odds, including disagreement of the Maithili litterateurs barring a few like Dr. Jaykant Mihshra, Dr. Kamalkant Jha ,etc.
Later, on my repeated suggestion, Tarakant Jha, ex-advocate-general and ex-president, of the BJP, Bihar(Including Jharkhand) also took up the issue very strongly, after the passing of the Bihar Reorganisation Act, 2000 on 2.8.2000 for the formation of Jharkhand state by the Parliament and the slogan of Maithils become, Mithila Rajya Kevalam through the Mithila Rajya Abhiyan( but being returned to the BJP, he became an MLC and kept mum like the movement progenitor Babu Jankinandan Singh was mum during his councillorship in 1962-68 although the last linguistic states Gujarat and Maharashtra became separate state from Bombay on 1.5 1960 and Haryana and Punjab on 1.11. 1966,Nagaland (1.12,1963) separated from Assam on 1.12.1963, Himachal Pradesh became a state on 25.11.1971, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura on 21.1.1972 (although all UTs since 1971), Sikkim on 16.5.1975 and, Goa on 30.5.1987, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram became a state on 20.2.1987, though UTs in 1972.
But there was no state movement for Mithila between 1956 to 1992 and the state movement was engulfed by linguistic recognition movements in Sahitya Academi, the second language of Bihar and VIII Schedule while the prime and foremost was the State Movement.
When I went to meet Dr. Laksman Jha, ex-V.C., LNMU, Darbhanga, a veteran Mithila protagonist, on 28.10.1995, he had tears in his eyes as if I was going to fulfil his long-cherished dream of Mithila state.
Surprisingly, Dr. Lakshman Jha who was one of the progenitors of the Mithila movement was also mum though he had written hundreds of other articles after 1956. No doubt, he had blessed me despite I had questioned him also as to why he had asked for a separate army for Mithila apart from my dissent from his Indo-Nepal Mithila unification. Accompanying me, Dr. Ashok ‘Avichal’ and Ajit Azad could save my life on the boat being drowned the previous night in adjoining rivers.
Providing an intellectual framework to the Mithila-Maithili movement, I had written 102 columns in Maithili in the Ranchi Express touching almost all points, mostly in the form of travelogues apart from several unpublished stories and poems of literary taste.
Including extensive 302 Mithila-Maithili Jagaran Yatras, by July 2025, I have devoted 1502 days and nights in Mithila (and in 399 journeys outside Mithila I met Maithilis devoting my 1488 days and nights) and addressed meetings of Maithils at various places including Kathmandu, Patna, Guwahati, Kolkata, Konnagar, Naihati, Durgapur, Muri, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Sindri, Chasnala, Bhuli, Giridih, Jamshedpur, Ghatsila, Chaibasa, Rourkela, Jharsuguda, Bilaspur, Korba, Raipur, Bhilai, Bhopal, Indore, Satna, Kanpur, Prayag, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Bhubaneshwar, Vishakhapatanam, Bhagyanagar (Hyderabad), Tirupati, Madras, Bangalore Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Goa, Karnavati (Ahmadabad), Rajkot, Jamnagar, Kota, Ajmer, Jaipur, Delhi, Faridabad, Jammu, and in Mithila’s Janakpur, Marar, Sirha, Lahan, Biratnagar, Jainagar, Khajauli, Rajnagar, Madhubani, Basopatti, Umgaon, Benipatti, Jhanjharpur Ghoghardiha, Darbhanga, Bharwara, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Dalsing Sarai, Singiaghat, Begusarai, Barauni, Khagaria, Saharsa, Shah Alamnagar (Madhavanand Nagar), Supaul, Jogbani, Forbesganj, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnea, Bhagalpur, Deoghar, and Godda like almost all small or big towns and hundreds of villages. For Maithili’s organizational work, I am regarded as the most widely travelled person.
Eminent linguist Dr. Subhadra Jha told in public that he had been a teacher of many but wanted to be a ‘student’ of Dhanakar (for Maithili work)and when I went to see him, he said, “I thought that you were an aged person, yet I stood with my words.”
Though here too like the NMO, I dedicated myself as a worker so much so that people sometimes forgot that I was the founder of the Antarrashtriya Maithili Parishad(AMP), and even in my program I like the NMO at its Silver Jubilee at Delhi), I was not called to the dais at Dhanbad in the X International Maithili Conference on 1.2.2003(though there I addressed a press conference and conducted other meetings) though I had first convened any such conference at Ranchi on 19.6.1993 where the AMP was founded. A similar incident happened on 21.4.2005 when Arjun Munda, CM, Jharkhand graced the Vidyapati Parva organized by the Jharkhand Maithili Manch, Harmu, Ranchi(though I had induced them and had also presided over its foundation meeting on 21.12.1997). I did not go there the following night remaining busy in X Maithili Workers’ Training Camp in my quarters which was graced by Dr.(Mrs.) Jennie Jha, M.B.E.(Member of British Empire) and Dr. Jagannath Mishra, ex-CM, Bihar. (including Jharkhand).
However, by and large, the Maithil community honoured me from distant towns to the interior villages in Mithila. At Saharsa, Prof. Vinay Chaudhary and at Mumbai Prof. Baiju Chaudhary named me the ‘fifth great Thakur’ (after Jyotirishwar Thakur, Vidyapati Thakur, Babuajee Thakur, and Dr.C.P.Thakur) as a saviour of Maithili but what I feel I did the duty of a son and that’s all. (My first news appearance in Mithila, Dainik AAJ 21.10.1994 deespite that very few Maithil organizations invite me as distinguished guest (even after calling me some do not give my name on invitation letters , program or daises as everybody wants to be near the VIP( at Varanasi on 2.11.2012 my name was not on cards and someone posted on Facebook that I cancelled trip and instead made a valuable and only trip to Shekhpura, Lakhisarai and Jamui gathering their unequivocal support for Mithila state; at Palam, Delhi though I was an invited guest of the Jan Jagriti Manch in Vidyapati Parva on 9.12.2012, I was not called on dais though Prabhat Jha,MP mentioned my name yet Mahabal Mishra ex-MP met wholeheartedly and was sore at the organiser’s behaviour, Saubhagya Mithila took my bite and I returned with Ashish and Kumud toward Laxminagar and also at Bhagalpur on 21.2.2010 though I was an invited guest by their secretary my name was not in the list of speakers or on dais and height was that when before programme I was distributing free Maithili Sandesh I was objected by the secretary not to distribute Mithila material till he Chief guest Justice Gyansudha Mishra departs. I vehemently protested and boycotted the function I went to the medical college. A society named Mithila has objections to Mithila materials. Much later their other officials in the AMP meeting regretted it.
However, many organizations also honoured me notably the first among them was Mithila Sanskritik Parishad, Hyderabad, On 28.1.1996, I had the honour to preside over Vidyapati Parva in Rabindra Bhavan, in which P.S. Mishra, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of A.P. High Court was the chief guest. On 15.4.2007, again I attended it as the chief guest.
Mithila Sanskritik Parishad, Jamshedpur also called me as the chief guest on 14.3.1999; on 30.3.2003 they called me for anchoring where TATA CHORUS Chairman, B. Mutthuraman was surprised when I spoke over three minutes on his hometown Thanjavur, I had requested him not only a plot for MSP office but a Netarhat type school in the Mithila.
Mithila Darpan, Mumbai, Maithil Sangh, Burari, Delhi, Mithila Navyvak Sangh, Faridabad, and Mithila Sanskritik Samanvay Samiti, Guwahati also called me and honoured.
When without any information I reached Madhubani on 10.1.2009, in Vidayapati Parva the organizer called me first and honoured me with a traditional shawl-Pag, etc, and after me, Hukumdeo Narayan Yadav, MP(now Padmbibhushan) referred me many times in his eloquent speech. The organizer had called me Pt. Dhanakar ‘Jha’ (which my teacher Prof. Dr. N.P. Mishra had also written on an envelope in 1985 when I left Darbhanga for good to Ranchi).
Uninformed when I reached Chasnala in Vidayapti Parva on 12.5.2001, the organizers were immensely pleased and honoured me profusely.
Social work is a mixed bag of experiences.
Maithils should celebrate New Year on Mithila’s New Year, Mesh Sankranti i.e. Jur-Shital (14/5th April), as MITHILA DIVAS I strongly proposed which the community has accepted and cleaning ponds’ mud is also a novel way of desludging which can prevent flood have too if forestation is coupled with.
I also asked Maithils should and without fail mention Mithila in their introduction or posts along with the PIN code.
I myself edit the Maithili Sandesh (circulation of 5,000-8,000 copies quarterly, a total of 40 issues 2,13,000 copies distributed free till August 2020 and after that E-copies) arousing millions of Maithils. I regularly write in it a health column and address the villagers during camps and treat patients but any movement is made by the workers and so I have started enrolling part-time and lifetime workers, through village/town level Maithili workers’ training camps and trained 1765 worker by in 107 camps by July 2025 in which seven were E-camps awarded by 19 weekly classes.
In October 1992, I distributed pamphlets, Jagu Maithil Dhir – Awake, the learned Maithils, (4,000), from the Baruni (to the passengers) to Forbesganj and Saharsa and then 20,000 for the Mithila State; again for enumerating Maithili in the Census in February 2001, distributed 20,000 (and 3,000 posters got pasted) at Barauni, Samastipur and Darbhanga stations as well as in the trains and so in 2011 February also distributed 20,000 pamphlets but in 2021 due to Corona distanced from it despite propagation for past three years through almost daily free 100 SMS,
I also started celebrating the birthday of Sir George Abraham Grierson Abrahm Grierson (Born: 7 January 1851, Glenageary, Ireland-Died: 9 March 1941, Camberley, U.K.known for Linguistic Survey of India in 1881 wrote the first grammar of Maithili and established the name Maithili for our language.
whose linguistic map is the basis of the territory of the Mithila State, the capital of which I propose should be somewhere near Barauni. Muzaffarpur, famous internationally for lychees was earlier proposed as Mithila’s capital by Dr. Laksman Jha (Mithila: A Union Republic, Mithila Mandal, Darbhanga, 1952; p.185). However, Dr. Jha had not included areas south of the Ganga (where Maithili’s dialect Angika i.e. Chhika-Chhiki as per Grierson is spoken), which I propose to include in Mithila and, hence, its capital at the most centrally located and industrialized town, Barauni. I again convened the Second International Maithili Conference at Madhubani (on my ancestral land) on Jan. 7-8, 1996 where the emphasis was on the Mithila State — separate from Bihar and Jharkhand in India.
I feel Nepal’s Maithils should also organize themselves without interfering with the international boundary. In Nepal, III (Marari, Sirha, Lahan, Jankapurdham), VIII(Biratnagar),on 23.12.200o where Jhalanath Khanal(later PM Nepal), was the chief uest and XIX (Kathmandu, PM, Prachanda was the chief guest on 13.4.2009 who announced Nepal’s state reorganization on ethnicity and linguistic basis),in XXXV Antarrashtriya Maithili Sammelan at Sirha on December 20,2024 Dr Baburam Bhattarai ex PM,Nepal was the chieg guest who spoke very favourly for the uplift of Maithili language and there I pleaded for the best possible Indo-Nepal relations and hinting the third country(China) I pointed that Bharat will always help Nepl better and we are one Nation and two countries due to the umblical chord of Hinduism.
In Biratnagar, I was the first to demand Mithila state in Nepalin 2000 from any big conference where Jhalanath Khanal was also present. Mithila state is presently divided in Nepal into states 2 &3 which if unified will be linguistically homogeneous.
In the Nepal Tarai, the Third International Maithili Conference had already been held during April 13-16, 1997 (concluding on Janaki Navami of 2054 Vikram Samvat) in the holy city of Janakpur, by the Antarrashtriya Maithili Parishad, in that conference at Sirha, the place of legendary Raja Salhesh, I persuaded an eminent litterateur, Dr. Bhuvaneshwar Prasad Gurumaita to accept the responsibility of the President, finding him the most competent person, although my term as president could have continued for the next two years.
36 International Maithili Conferences(held till July 2025 ) have established that for the Mithila-Maithili work, the nodal coordinating organization is the Antarrashtiya Maithili Parishad (Regd. under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, Reg. No. 262/1.6.2000). Also, for involving the student community in the Mithila Movement, the Mithila Vidyarthi Parishad (MVP) was founded by me at Saharsa on 12.3.2005, and several other affiliated organizations are listed further.
Though entirely independent in functioning, the Antarrashtiya Maithili Parishad had also opted for affiliation with the Akhil Bhartiya Sahitya Parishad, a nationalist organization like the National Medicos Organisation, having the same ideological roots.
After selling a copy of the Purbotar Maithil (after 40 years of selling the Organiser in my childhood) on 22.12.2003 night, I listened on the Doordarshan (T.V.) to the news of the inclusion of Maithili in the VIII Schedule of the Indian constitution by the Lok Sabha unanimously (by 92nd Amendment in the Constitution of India, which was passed by the Rajya Sabha next day and with the presidential accent was included in the VIII schedule on 7.1.2004 to be effective from the same date which I advised celebrating as MAITHILI SAMMAN DIVAS which incidentally is also the birthday of George Abraham Grierson whose Maithili Grammar stamped Maithili as one of the oldest languages of India). It was notified in the Gazette of India on 8.1.2004.
I felt as if one chapter of the struggle in my life was over and the MITHILA State remains my goal henceforth. In the morning overwhelmed Mayanand Mishra phoned me, under whose leadership on 25.12.2003, a victory procession was held in the Ranchi town, first-time Maithils were on road with abir and gulal. Only AMP could have a victory procession at Jaynagar where Dr.Kamlakant Jha lead.
Now it is evident that it was the AMP, the president of which Dr. Bhubaneshwar Prasad Gurumaita went to PM Atal Behari Vajpayee with the RSS Sarsanghchalak K S Sudarshanjee that Maithili was accepted in the VIII Schedule. Yes, I also did many efforts for it but the greatest service I did I announced Dr. Bhubaneshwar Prasad Gurumaita as AMP president in my place (though he accepted but told me that the succession is by junior not senior I said that Dr. Jaykant Mishra is the president of Mithila Rajya Sangharsh Samiti(MRSS) and hence I had to take presidency though I am much younger for this scholarly post and finally Dr. Gurumaita kicked the goal where Tarakant Jha was also called by LK Advani and w and was asked to meet MOS Home Swami Chinmayanada to find the ways of inclusion of Maithili with the Bill for Boda. When Tarakant Jha was sitting with MOS a call from the CPI(M) leader Basudeo acharya came for santhali on which TK Jha advised the MOS to accept it and include Maithili which Aharya also accepted, Usually Government do not add in the Bill and hence it was even protested by pranav Mukherjee in the Rajya sabha on 24.12.2021 to send it in the select committee(which I feel was a blindspot for him like that of Deshratna Dr Rajendra Prasad and Dr. Sachidananad sinha’s non-aceptance of Maithili in Bihar Education Reform in 1940 which Dr Amarnath Jha had later protstvhemently that anything passed by the general committee cannot be removed by the executive committee and since that day Maithili is languishing for its saviour to which Nehru in part in did to provide the way to be included in the Sahitya akademy(just after his death, however,in 1965) ad Vahpayee finally became the s historyman by putting the same in the VIII SCedule, the language of Vidyapati I loe too he told KS Sudarshanji and Gurumaitajee was said ,” meri peeth sakshi hai( he had betned him in younghod in kabbadi at khapadi near Nagpur, which was reported to PP Guruji that in a fancy kabbaddi match of the pracharks f Bihar vs UP atal was severely beaten by Bhubaneshwar).
I do not say that others have not worked ..they all like CP Thakur due to Bajuji of Darbhanga, TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay ( due to Ashok Kumar Jha of Kolkata )
“Need To Include the Maithili Language In The Eighth Schedule Of The … on 3 December 2002
Title: Need to include the Maithili language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
SHRI SUDIP BANDYOPADHYAY (CALCUTTA NORTH WEST): Sir, the inclusion of the Maithili language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution has been a long pending demand of the crores of people of a major part of Bihar, popularly known as Mithila. Mithila is famous all over the world for its rich cultural heritage, glorious past, and dynamic present.
Maithili is an independent language. It has, like other recognized languages of India, its own script popularly known as Mithilakshar of Tirhuta. It is about 1300 years old. It is entirely due to the lack of printing facilities in Tirhuta that Maithili books are printed in Deonagri’. It is also recognized by P.E.N., an international literary organization, as a literary language. Maithili as a modern Indian literary language is a recognized subject of study and research not only in all universities of Bihar but also in other universities. The Maithili language has its own grammar, several books were written on grammar including one by Dr. G.A. Grierson also in 1881. It has also its own dictionary. I request the Union Government that the case of Maithili be kindly considered and be included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution,” but it was a work of Vajpayeeji finally who in the past told a delegation when he was the leader of the opposition that Hindi had come with great difficulty and giving Maithili status it may reduce somewhat to which someone had told then you will not get a vote to which Vajpayee retorted"To vah bhi ek bar dekh enge," (then that too will be seen one) an (as said by Uday Shankar Mishra, ex-General Secretary, Mithila Rajya Sangharsh Samiti to us at the XXV International Maithili Conference, Madhepura Dec 23, 2012, that he was the youngest chap in that delegation which had Bhartalal Jha, etc. such trans was mollified by the public pressure and Sudarshaji's presence. Though many of the RSS workers had connived against me before Ma. Bhaiyaji Joshi for this or that point and later my friends in politics like Sushil Kumar Modi did not feel good to recommend me a parliamentary ticket from Darbhanga, I repeat my Mithila-Maithili work is not sectarian and hence, I worked out in detail on the reorganization of the Indian states with a fully national view (given in a further epilogue, in brief, which may need a full book, maybe like the other part of this autobiography The Autobiography of an UNKNOWN MAITHIL when elaborated with some details of the events of my life since I closed the main substance of the book in November 1989, I have deliberately avoided updating in detail). When Tarakant Jha was sitting with MOS a call from the CPI(M) leader Basudeo acharya came for Santhali on which TK Jha advised the MOS to accept it and include Maithili which Aharya also accepted, Usually Government do not add in the Bill and hence it was even protested by Pranav Mukherjee in the Rajya sabha on 24.12.2021 to send it in the select committee(which I feel was a blind spot for him like that of Deshratna Dr Rajendra Prasad and Dr. Sachidananad Sinha's non-acceptance of Maithili in Bihar Education Reform in 1940 which Dr Amarnath Jha had later protested vehemently that anything passed by the general committee cannot be removed by the executive committee and since that day Maithili is languishing for its saviour to which Nehru in part in did to provide the way to be included in the Sahitya akademy(just after his death, however,in 1965) ad Vahpayee finally became the historyman by putting the same in the VIII Schedule, the language of Vidyapati I love him too he told KS Sudarshanji and Gurumaitajee was said ," meri peeth sakshi hai ( he had slapped him in younghod in kabbadi at khapadi near Nagpur, which was reported to PP Gurujuji that in a fancy kabbaddi match of the pracharks o Bihar vs UP Atal was severely beaten by Bhubaneshwar). I do not say that others have not worked ..they all like CP Thakur due to Bajuji of Darbhanga, TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay ( due to Ashok Kumar Jha of Kolkata ) “Need To Include the Maithili Language In The Eighth Schedule Of The ... on 3 December 2002 Title: Need to include the Maithili language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. It is entirely due to the lack of printing facilities in Tirhuta that Maithili books are printed inDeonagri’.
I request the Union Government that the case of Maithili be kindly considered and be included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution,” but it was a work of Vajpayeeji finally who in the past told a delegation when he was the leader of the opposition that Hindi had come with great difficulty and giving Maithili status it may reduce somewhat to which someone had told then you will not get a vote to which Vajpayee retorted”To vah bhi ek bar dekh enge,” (then that too will be seen one) an (as said by Uday Shankar Mishra, ex-General Secretary, Mithila Rajya Sangharsh Samiti to us at the XXV International Maithili Conference, Madheura Dec 23, 2012, that he was the youngest chap in that delegation which had Bhartalal Jha, etc. such trans was mollified by the public pressure and Sudarshaji’s presence.
Though many of the RSS workers had connived against me before Ma. Bhaiyaji Joshi for this or that point and later my friends in politics like Sushil Kumar Modi did not feel good to recommend me a parliamentary ticket from Darbhanga, I repeat my Mithila-Maithili work is not sectarian and hence, I worked out in detail on the reorganization of the Indian states with a fully national view.
